Teacher Spotlight: Crystal Brulato

piano teacher

Crystal Brulato has been with Greensleeves since late 2016, teaching piano and woodwinds to students throughout the area. She also works behind the scenes providing valuable administrative and invoicing assistance.

This summer, Crystal is playing with The Big Band Theory in West Chester and at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. She’s also playing with the Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds and recording with Tribe Sound Records.

She had the opportunity to take in Hall & Oates and Electric Light Orchestra live and has been listening to a variety of music including David Maslanka, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk & Claude Debussy.

As for what inspires her musically, Crystal says, “My students!” as well as “the challenge that great composers such as Debussy and Brahms set to make beautiful music.”

As a teacher and musician, Crystal says, “Teaching helps me be a better musician. Through being analytical of my students’ playing I am kept sharp and able to self-reflect on my own playing. Kids are also amazing with how fast they pick things up. I try to teach my students basics in technique and theory and show them how it applies to music to make learning easier.”

Crystal loves what she does, and aspires to play more, herself, in the coming months and year.

Besides music, Crystal is spending the summer growing her garden and enjoying the fruits of her labor. She loves playing with her puppy, fishing, and took a motorcycle trip to Maine where she ate an enormous lobster.

We’re lucky to have this inspiring musician and teacher on board!
